An Unfinished Book
There’s an unfinished book in the Bible. The book of Acts in the
New Testament is usually called “The Acts of the Apostles.” However, I
like what some Christian teachers have suggested: that the book be
called “The Acts of the Holy Spirit.” The acts, or works, of the Holy
Spirit of God on the Day of Pentecost, as well as throughout the rest of
the book, stirred the apostles and other believers to action. The
witnessing, preaching, healing, and miraculous things done by the
apostles and other members of the church were done in the power of the
Holy Spirit.
The acts of the Holy Spirit continue to this very day through believers,
and that is why I believe the book of Acts is unfinished. Whenever we
respond to the Holy Spirit’s leadership in our lives, another chapter
is written.
In coming to Faith Church as your pastor, I am following the direction
of the Holy Spirit. This is very clear to me. As the Holy Spirit stirs
my heart, as well as the hearts of each member and friend of the church,
we may look forward to wonderful new chapters being written. I come
with the gifts and graces which the Holy Spirit has given to me, as well
as my past experiences and training. The Holy Spirit wants to continue
building God’s kingdom in human hearts and through human institutions as
we respond to his leading, using all of our spiritual
gifts, experiences, and training to God’s glory. The Holy Spirit is a
team player, and as each of us, is committed to working with him and
with each other, what great things may be done to God’s glory!
Let us pray that extraordinary new chapters to the book of Acts may be
written as we together trust and obey the Lord. God surely wants that
to happen, and we need only respond to His work with our own work in
order to see that happen.
